As an independent author in South Africa, it is rather challenging to compete against both local and international authors who are supported by professional publishers and retail book stores. As a result, most of us are forced to market ourselves exclusively to an international market.
Deborah Du Plooy of SKOOBS book store, however, is on a mission to break that mould. She will tell you that she has hosted over 80 book launches in 9 months for local authors wanting to be recognised in South Africa.
